About Me:: I was Born and Raised Between A.C. and N.Y.C. . I spent some time down in Northern Florida and I traveled Up and Down the North/East Corridor. Now I lay my Head down in T-TOWN and I'M Vibin tough in P-TOWN,..hangin around with Progressive Poets and Bangin Jazz Bands,....I Believe that RENAISSANCE MOVEMENT is on THE MOVE Again . I was born in That City by The Sea, in a little gangsta Town called A.C.. These were the days before I could See , when I was chasing the Dreams of another Reality. I grew up with men who took on Names like:...COCAIN SMITTY,..GANGSTA BEN..MaMa JACK,..FAT BACK,...CAT EYE,..and I tell You no Lie. Most of these Men met with VIOLENT ENDS and never got a chance to make Amends. I seen more Live Acts by the Time I was nineteen, then most people see in a LifeTime Scene...B.T. EXPRESS, BRASS CONSTRUCTION, TOWER oF POWER..they came down to A.C. and Stole the Hour;....JAMES BROWN, RAY CHARLES, B B KING they came down and did their Thing;....the SUPREMES,..the TEMPTATIONS,...thee OHIO PLAYERS laid down that R&B FLAVA. I remember seeing STEVIE WONDER when he was LIL' STEVIE WONDER,...turned to BIG STEVIE WONDER and Turned Back Again. That Young Man came down and did a Wonderful Musical Thing, yea I seen Him at the Skatin Ring. I Remember PlayBoxing with MUHAMMAD ALI at K.Y. and the CURB in ATLANTIC CITY.....from the CLUB HARLEM to the WONDER GARDEN and All in Between,...I Seen the FLIEST,..PRETTIEST,.. PROUDEST mosT TALENTED BLACK FOLKS and ENTERTAINERS on the 60's, 70's Scene...And beside that in-between the Cracks,..Fillin in The FACTS with JAZZZZ,...and The Struggle oF The PEOPLE. Being Introduced to New BLACK HERO'S and SHERO's. As I Joined in the CHORUS of The YOUNG CADRE being INSPIRED and MOTIVATED by the RIGHTEOUS REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT oF:....MALCOLM, STOKELY, HUEY, BOBBY SEALE,.. H. RAP, GEORGE JACKSON,...ZAID and ASSATA SHAKUR....and many others Known and UnKnown. FREE HUEY !....now Huey ( my Aquarian Brother ) has made The Transition and ZAID, Chairmen FRED, MARK CLARK, BUNCHY and JOHN and many others Known and UnKnown and the POW's, all Victims of Government OPPRESSION and LIES. It is not easy
to be Afrikan
in an anti-Afrikan reality.

It makes peace
nigh impossible.

would rather die
a warrior
in service
to my ancestors
and descendants
than live
the lie
of a slave

Spirit

Struggle,

To be engaged in battle

Carter Anthony Beauford (born November 2, 1957 in Charlottesville, Virginia) is a drummer, percussionist, and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band (DMB). He is known for his ability to mix together countless percussion styles, his ambidextrous approach to playing, and is highly regarded for his open hand drumming style, where his left hand leads on the hi-hat and ride cymbal in a conventional right-handed drumset set-up.

Carter Beauford Reggae

Background

Beauford was exposed to drumming at the age of three. At the time, his father had bought tickets to a Buddy Rich concert and could not find someone to watch his son, so he took young Carter along to the show. Carter was mesmerized by Buddy Rich on stage. After that show, Carter's father bought his son a tin drum set with paper heads since Carter showed much interest in learning the instrument. Carter began playing his first professional gigs when he was nine. He earned a degree in music from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music.

Secrets, Dave Matthews Band

Eventually, he joined Secrets, a Richmond-based jazz fusion band. Other members included saxophonist LeRoi Moore, trumpeter John D'earth, vocalist Dawn Thompson, keyboardist Butch Taylor, and guitarist Tim Reynolds. Secrets would perform throughout Virginia, often at Miller's, the bar in Charlottesville where Dave Matthews worked as a bartender. Carter also played in Blue Indigo with LeRoi Moore, Sal Soghoian, and George Melvin. A driving Jazz band, Blue Indigo performed regularly at Tokyo Rose and Miller's, and was featured at the Delaware Water Gap Jazz Festival. Eventually, Dave approached both Carter and LeRoi regarding some music he had written that he wished to record. Upon listening, Beauford agreed, thus establishing his permanent status as DMB drummer.

Beauford uses a Yamaha Drums drum set, Zildjian cymbals, Remo drumheads, Promark sticks and mallets, Yamaha and Drum Workshop hardware, and various Latin Percussion cowbells, woodblocks and other assorted percussion equipment.
